Valentine’s Day is everywhere—red hearts, romantic dinners, and endless couple photos. If you’re single like me, it can feel like an unwelcome reminder of your relationship status but self-care is still on the table right?

Instead of letting this day bring you down, why not shift the focus to YOU? Practicing self-care can help you feel calmer and more present, keeping you in the moment and out of your head!

If you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed, you’re not alone—I’ve been there too! That’s why I’m sharing 10 self-care ideas that have helped me feel more mindful and doesn't include a bath! Maybe they’ll help you too.

🌿 10 Simple & Creative Self-Care Ideas to Soothe Anxiety

1. Refresh Your Space with a Quick Clean-Up 🏡

When my space is cluttered, my mind feels cluttered too! Try tidying up just one small area—your desk, nightstand, or even making your bed. Research shows that an organized space can lower stress and boost focus.

Pro Tip: Put your favourite podcast on or play your favourite music while you clean to keep your thoughts on something else.

2. Cook or Bake Something Just for You 🍲

Instead of ordering takeout, cook a meal you truly enjoy. Whether it’s a comfort food recipe or something new from Pinterest, the act of cooking can be grounding and rewarding.

Bonus: Share your meal with a friend or freeze leftovers for another cozy night. I made these delicious almond cookies for Christmas and will definitely bake myself a batch on Valentine's Day!

3. Watch Something That Feels Like a Hug 📺

Give yourself permission to unwind with a favourite TV show or movie. My personal favorites? Schitt’s Creek and The Big Bang Theory! Laughter is truly self-care for the soul.

4. Hydrate & Nourish Your Body 🚰

It sounds simple, but most of us are dehydrated without realizing it. Pause for a moment and drink a big glass of water. Your body (and skin) will thank you.

Extra Boost: Add lemon or mint for a refreshing twist! Even better, you must try these HydroMATE Electrolyte Powder Drink Sachets. With 10k bought in one month, and 4.3-stars from over 10k ratings, staying hydrated seems a lot easier!

5. Get Your Hands in the Dirt—Literally! 🌱

Gardening, or even just planting something small, can be incredibly grounding. Did you know soil contains natural antidepressant microbes that help reduce stress? (source)

No garden? No problem! Try a small indoor plant like a succulent or basil for your kitchen. These cute little Earthling Sitting Pots are the perfect to-me-from-me gift.

6. Make a Gratitude List 📝

When anxiety creeps in, gratitude can help shift your mindset. Write down five things you’re grateful for, no matter how small—your morning coffee, a text from a friend, or a cozy blanket.

Why it works: Studies show that practicing gratitude regularly can lower stress and improve happiness. I love the Gratitude Journal from Clever Fox. Daily practices, weekly reflections and monthly wellness checks gives you everything you need to build a gratitude mindset. And it includes 3 sheets of cool stickers!

7. Eat Something Green for a Mood Boost 🥗

Green veggies are packed with nutrients that help regulate mood and energy levels. Try adding spinach, avocado, or green tea to your day for a natural boost.

Not a veggie fan? Smoothies are an easy way to sneak in greens without the taste. I recommend the Green Smoothies for Life recipe book. It's a New York Times best seller with 4.7-stars from 6k ratings.

8. Tackle One Small Task on Your To-Do List ✅

Sometimes, anxiety stems from unfinished tasks. Pick just ONE small thing to complete—whether it’s replying to an email, folding laundry, or making a phone call.

Even a small win can lighten your mental load! I'm a big fan of sticky notes and these Daily To-Do Sticky Notes are bright and uplifting.

9. Wash Your Hands—But Make It a Ritual 🧼

Turn a simple habit into a moment of mindfulness. As you wash your hands with warm water and a favorite scent, focus on the sensation and take deep breaths.

Bonus: Play your favorite calming song while doing it! The Muse Apothecary Hand Ritual, a luxurious aromatherapy hand soap, is an essential to mindfully wash your hands with intention.

10. Talk to Someone Who Can Help 💬

If you’re struggling, you don’t have to do it alone. Therapy is for everyone, and there’s no shame in seeking support.

Not ready for therapy? Call a trusted friend, join an online support group, or listen to a mental health podcast.
